MEETING THE DERMATOLOGY NEEDS OF ARIZONA FOR 25 YEARS
Dr. Burrell H. Wolk, M.D., FAAD, FRCP, established the Skin and Cancer Center of Arizona in October 1987 with the goal of creating a premier dermatology center. Dr. Wolk’s practice grew rapidly as did his reputation as one of the leaders in medical and surgical dermatology in the state.
To meet the growing needs of the community, Dr. Wolk redesigned and expanded his office facility twice over a ten-year period. This accommodated a group practice that allowed the Skin and Cancer Center of Arizona to better serve an evergrowing patient population. By 2003, it was clear that the practice had again outgrown its space. In January 2008 we opened our Mohs Surgical Center, making the Skin and Cancer Center of Arizona a complete skin cancer treatment center. Dr. Wolk made the decision to design and build a state-of-the-art facility in the Advanced Medical Plaza.
The entire staff of medical providers at the Skin and Cancer Center of Arizona has advanced training and experience in the diagnosis and treatment of all types of skin cancer as well as all other skin conditions.
As a modern dermatology practice, there have been some exciting changes made over the past few years. The focus is still on advanced treatment of all skin disease, but new technologies and new procedures have expanded the specialty also into cosmetic areas that were previously much too expensive for most people to consider. These aesthetic and cosmetic procedures include Botox, Restylane, Laser Facials, and Laser Hair and Vein Removal.

We now offer narrow band UVB light therapy. This is the same cutting edge technology offered by many university medical centers throughout the United States. Narrow band UVB is a small component of the same kind of light naturally produced by the sun.
Recent case studies show that compared to other types of phototherapy, narrow band UVB causes less skin redness or burning, and has virtually no incidence of causing skin cancer. It has been shown to be extremely effective in controlling psoriasis, certain types of eczema, and vitiligo. With guidance from your physician, you will find that using this type of controlled UV light will keep you in almost complete remission with minimum side effects. Another advantage of narrow band UVB light is that there is no need for taking systemic drugs like Methoxsalen, or applying them on your skin prior to treatment. Studies show faster responses and longer remissions than with other types of phototherapy.
